Zelda Sages Q&A - Now Served with Fries

What is this you ask? Why, it's a simple "ask a question, you get an answer" page. This contains a list of questions and answers of the things visitors wonder most about Zelda Sages. If you have a suggestion for an addition to the list, feel free to contact us.

Question: What is Zelda Sages, why do you people exist?
Answer: Why, that's a fairly easy question. Zeldasages.com is a fan-made website about the Legend of Zelda series. The main goal is to provide fans and curious gamers alike with honest opinions and helpful information. In a sense, we are a resource website. We also aim to provide a fun community for our members to take part in to pass the hours of their life away. So why are we here exactly, simply we are here for you.

Question: I know there are ALOT of other Zelda based website's out there, why should I visit Zelda Sages?

Answer: Yes, there are hundreds out their in many different languages. Essentially, it is all in your personal preference. Some people will like to visit the website with all the flashy cool images and layout, others want to visit website's with good information. Some, really don't even care. If you would like a few reasons why you should visit Zelda Sages though we can throw out a few. First and foremost, there are no advertisements, pop ups, and other annoying things that get in the way of what you are looking for. The webmaster is dedicated to the point that he is willing to fund keeping this resource online out of his own pocket, expecting nothing in return but the satisfaction of a job well done. We know how annoying most website's on the internet today are with advertisements everywhere, and we don't want to be one of them. You can also consider visiting because we have one of the most enthusiastic webmasters around. He enjoys spending hours of his life in front of a computer working away, all for you, and all for free.

Question: On the subject of the webmaster, who is Webmaster Bob?
Answer: Some say he is a mighty man living deep within the hollows of the Earth. Some say he lives in the Northern Canadian Woods in the wild. Both of these are wrong, considering he lives in the United Sates. Webmaster Bob is the pen name for the zeldasages.com webmaster, ironically with the first name ...BOB. Only a few staff members have ever seen the likes of the webmaster, most of which have known him from the days of early schooling. Bob is essentially a milled mannered man with a large work ethic. There is not as much mystery about him as there is mystery about him, if that makes any sense.

Question: When I click on some media I'm told I have to log in or register. Why?

Answer: We do not allow guests to view certain content on Zelda Sages such as midi files and some movies simply because they eat bandwidth. In the world of web hosting, bandwidth is the amount of information that we are permitted to transfer per-month. If we go over this limit, Webmaster Bob gets a credit card statement with a balance due that makes him fly through the ceiling killing small innocent termites. Essentially, viewing some content is one of the many perks given to registered members. To view the content you must register for Zeldasages.com which is as simple as clicking a register link *like this register link* and completing a short application and agreeing to a bunch of legal contracts. Don't worry, it's all worth it :).

Question: Why should I register for zeldasages.com?
Answer: Asking that is like asking why pizza is associated with Italy *zeldasages.com has no affiliation with Italy and their great spots for family vacations*. Seriously though, registration will simply give you more out of Zelda Sages. Especially if you plan on being a returning visitor, registration is the way to go. By registering you will gain access to a great deal of media inaccessible by normal visitors, the ability to comment, as well as the ability to participate in our fun and friendly community forums. Registering will also give you access to Zelda Sages exclusive contests and online events. Shortly, we will also be bringing in a chat room to chat with other gamers. Really, registering will give you a better experience.

Question: How do you guys rate and review games?
Answer: Games are rated and reviewed by the webmaster. The games are rated with the United States grading system which consists of letters A through F. A plus "+" in front of a letter or minus "-" indicates whether the letter grade is above the expectation for that letter or near below. A higher grade is a letter higher in the alphabet hence making a B better than a D, or a B+ better than a B- in the plus minus case. Scores are based on the 100% of which different categories are weighted differently. This is explained on every review page. A score from 100-90 will dictate an A, from 89-80 a B, from 79-70 a C, from 69-60 a D, and in the rare and hopefully never to happen cases, below 60 an F. A plus will be added to the score if the score is between 7 and 9 in the ones place, no marking for 4-6, and a minus for 0-3. There are two exceptions to that being if the score is a 100%, which is an A+, or anything below 60. Now, if you're in the US or know about that grading system, we're sorry for making you read that :).

Question: OK, cool, does some of that content involve ROMS? I really want to play free Legend of Zelda games!

Answer: The answer to this question is very simple...NO! Zeldasages.com has not, and never will support illegal activities such as the hosting or linking to Roms. ROMs are illegal, plain and simple. You are essentially steeling from Nintendo a game which they have worked so hard to create. You can get a better idea of our view on ROMs and emulation software in our legal section.

Question: Can I work for Zelda Sages or become a moderator/administrator?
Answer: Yes, you can certainly apply to work for Zelda Sages. Be sure to check our staff page often for job openings and watch the news posted on the main page. We will always post a news story when we need a staff member, so you should always stay informed by reading the news. Requirements for each position will also be listed. We look for dedicated, enthusiastic, clear headed individuals to join our team. Can you be a moderator or administrator? That really depends on several factors. Becoming a staff member you will become a moderator and some positions will grant you administrator privileges. If you are a regular visitor, at least for becoming an administrator, the answer is no. We don't know why you would want to be one anyway, they are the ones that are bugged by members the most and when problems arise they spend hours correcting them so the community can run smoothly. Sure, you get power, but the amount of work justifies the means. A normal registered member can one day become moderator through our Sage advancement program though :).

Question: Sage advancement...WHAT?!?

Answer: Well, calm down, it's ok. Here at Zelda Sages we have two special ranks which members may earn. The first is the rank of Sage in Training "S.I.T. for short". These members were selected by members of the staff to run for election to receive the rank. Members who accept will be put before the community where, ultimately, the members of the zeldasages.com community will decide if a member deserves S.I.T. status. These elections are not a popularity contest, and if the webmaster and at minimum 95% of the staff believe one member should receive S.I.T. status, the vote can be overridden, however this happens only in very rare cases. An S.I.T. gains many permissions on the forums and community and can post in certain restricted areas. Upon being the rank of S.I.T. for some time, an S.I.T. may apply to be a Sage if a need for moderators is in place. All S.I.T.s who apply for Sage status will be reviewed by the administrators and an ultimate decision will be made between these three administrators being the webmaster, co-webmaster, and community manager. If approved, the member will become a Sage and a member of the moderation team to help fight forum related crime.

Question: Ah, ok, makes perfect sense. You know what doesn't make sense though, why your copyright says 2004...when you obviously showed up in 2006!
Answer: Actually...no, we did show up in 2004. Actually, our history goes back to 2001. You see, in 2001 Webmaster Bob started a small website on expgae, still viewable at http://www.expage.com/zeldasages. Bob gained a small following, and they encouraged him to turn Zelda Sages into something real. So, after years, Bob finally set out to do just that in 2004. However, Bob was plagued by a multitude of problems. Zelda Sages was completed in early 2005 only for Bob's computer to suffer a terrible hard drive failure. This, in combination with years of poor hosting, lack of useful staff, and other factors severally delayed Zelda Sages. However, now we have a great dedicated team of staff members, a good host, and the software to make up what you see. So in the end, everything worked out well.

Question: Ok, out of curiosity, although I would never be bad, what happens when you misbehave here?
Answer: Well, it really depends. If you have an account with us, you will receive an infraction and infraction points on your infraction record *wow, we said the word infraction three times in that sentence*. Essentially, if you misbehave, a moderator or administrator can issue you an infraction or warning. Warnings are only available for less serious crimes and will not add points to your record. They only serve as a note to us that you have been warned and a reminder to follow the rules. A full infraction will add a certain number of points to your point total, depending on the violation. You will always receive a notice in your PM Mailbox when you receive an infraction or warning. If you reach a total of twelve points on your record, your account will be banned for one month. Upon reaching twenty you will be banned for three months, and life or until review for 24 points. In essence, follow the rules, and everyone will be happy.

Question: Hey, who is your webhost? I'm starting a site and have nowhere to turn.
Answer: Well, we've received this question far too many times to count. So much in fact we've decided to place a nice "Powered by Site5" image under our affiliates section. We don't really see it as an advertisement, more as a declaration of whom we are hosted by. However, if you do happen to click that image and you do happen to sign up with them, Zelda Sages will receive a small commission. These commissions, if we ever get any that is hehe, will all be put back into the hosting account for more months of hosting.

Question: Ok, that's cool. I have other questions, but I haven't thought of them. What do I do to get you to answer them?
Answer: Contact Us :).
