Some threads can have relevance after that period of time; we are just concerned about instances such as:
Someone makes a thread called "Favorite Mask"
no one posts in it for a long time, it's a dead topic.
Instead of making a new topic someone goes and revives the old topic that was long forgotten eons ago.

We do allow things such as
Someone makes a Wii thread
7 months later the Wii release date is announced and someone posts it in that thread. This is an instance where you can revive a topic.
