2D Zelda and Skyward Updates

First, I'd like to divert your collective attention to a great article from IGN that evaluates the need for a new 2D style Zelda game. The article can be found here. Audrey Drake does a very thorough job arguing the need for Zelda to explore this area of its roots again. Personally, I'd love to see another true 2D-like Zelda, but the reality remains to be seen. We do know Nintendo is working on a new Zelda title for the 3DS, and we likely won't know more until E3 this June.
In other news, yes, we're still working on the site redesign. We have most of the core site components done, and currently we're concentrating on walkthrough specific style properties. In the past, we have only linked to full walkthroughs of Legend of Zelda games after receiving permission from the walkthrough author. Beginning with Skyward Sword, and launching with our new site design, we're taking a very different approach to walkthroughs than just about any other Legend of Zelda site on the net. I can't disclose what exactly that is here, but rest assured, it's going to be awesome!

For those of you that don't know, which I assume is a significant number, Nintendo is holding a contest titled 25,000 Fans for 25 Years of The Legend of Zelda. Participation in the contest allows you to upload one photo of yourself to be used in a Legend of Zelda 25th anniversary mosaic to be displayed at the Nintendo World Store in New York City. Participation also enters you for a chance to win replicas of the Master Sword and Hylian Shield! The contest is open to fans of Nintendo's page on Facebook. Click here for a direct link to the competition page, and sign the pledge! Best of luck everyone.

Happy New Year

Published: January 1, 2012 PrintEmail
By this point, it's safe to say the new year has reached most parts of the world! 2011 was a fantastic year for The Legend of Zelda and a very fitting 25th anniversary year! Now, as we look forward to 2012, and many more years after 2012, (silly conspiracy theorists) get ready to see more coverage of all things Zelda here at Zelda Sages.
On another, brief, update. That new site, yea, we're still working on it. Yes, we wanted up up a month ago, and yes, we said there shouldn't be any more delays. Don't worry though, it's all to make sure the new site will work in your browser! That, and we're changing a few things here and there to allow for better flow. I promise you, we are actively working, just ask Dakare! At either rate, have a very happy new year, and we'll be certain to update you all on the status of the new site as soon as possible.

The Minish Cap on Nintendo 3DS

Published: December 14, 2011 PrintEmail
For all of you that purchased a 3DS before the price drop and signed up for the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Program, Nintendo just announced the GameBoy Advance games that will be released before the end of this year for all members of the program. The Legend of Zelda: THe Minish Cap is one of them! Personally, I'm absolutely thrilled that Minish Cap is being released. Disappointed that I no longer have a GBA slot of play Minish Cap, this will be a great addition, in my opinion. For those who never got the chance to play Minish Cap, it's a really fantastic game! Nintendo made my day!
It must be noted this is 100% confirmed only for Japan. However, it's unlikely Minish Cap will not make its way to North America, Europe, and Australia given the Zelda 25 celebration.
Dakare - December 15, 2011 Nice. Minish Cap was a good one. Too bad I don't have a 3DS. And good thing I still have a Gameboy and the original cartridge.
ZeldaGuardian - January 12, 2012 I have the 3DS and I do have the Ambassador Program. I downloaded the game and finished it. It really brings back memories.

Miyamoto, Retiring
By webmasterbob
Published: December 8, 2011

*UPDATE* It has been confirmed by Nintendo of Japan that Miyamoto will NOT be retiring from his roles as head of EAD. He is only scaling back what he works on, and trying to set things up for the day he does leave Nintendo. He will also continue to work on big Nintendo games, such as Mario, Zelda, etc. IGN
---------
OK, that title was a bit misleading. Famed developer and creator of the Legend of Zelda series Shigeru Miyamoto has declared that he will no longer actively be involved in the development of Nintendo's big-name franchises, many of which he created. Instead, the 59 year old Miyamoto states:
“Inside our office, I’ve been recently declaring, ‘I’m going to retire, I’m going to retire,’” Miyamoto said through his interpreter. “I’m not saying that I’m going to retire from game development altogether. What I mean by retiring is, retiring from my current position.”
“What I really want to do is be in the forefront of game development once again myself,” Miyamoto said. “Probably working on a smaller project with even younger developers. Or I might be interested in making something that I can make myself, by myself. Something really small.”
It seems Miyamoto wants to both rejoin the ranks of active developers, something he has not done since the 1990s, while at the same time training Nintendo's younger talent to take the reins when his real retirement day approaches. Needless to say, Miyamoto won't be around forever, and it's great to see he has a plan in place to see to it that Nintendo can continue to remain well ahead of the pack in gameplay design. Personally, I doubt he's going to completely stop support the development of Mario, Zelda, etc in some capacity, but likely far more as an occasional advisory role as opposed to day to day advising.
Linkman - December 8, 2011 That's a relief! I was going to fall out of my chair. I thought, no way Miyamoto would just retire without a goodbye.
Lt_Justin - December 9, 2011 Good! Shiggy needs to stay!

Skyrim vs Skyward Sword: Vote for Victory!
By webmasterbob
Published: December 2, 2011 PrintEmail
Over the last couple of months most of you have likely heard about the, previously, non-existent contest between Skyrim and Skyward Sword. Both are, in the opinion of gamers around the world, absolutely fantastic games. However, G$TV has pit them one against the other in what I assume is the semi-finals for the G4TV Game of the Year Award. Seeing as this is a Legend of Zelda fansite, we encourage each of you to go to G4 and vote for Skyward Sword! The Zelda community has really been supporting Skyward Sword throughout the match. G4 has even tried to skew the results. Just look at this description:
"In this battle of swords and styles, the light-as-air Zelda takes on serious-as-Game of Thrones RPG Skyrim. Which do you prefer, reader? Make your voice heard by voting!"
Don't let this bias nonsense get in the way. Do you patriotic duty to Hyrule, get out there, and kick some ass! Vote Zelda 2011.
On a side note, remember that SpikeTV's award voting is still open. You can vote once a day, so be sure to go to SpikeTV and vote for Skyward Sword GOTY.
