Life Issues

ya. i'm glad a woman has run too. but if only it was someone good. i still think she and obama will be assassinated if they make president.

why would they be assasainated just because they are a minority? all other presidents who were assassinated were white males. granted, thats the only presdient we've ever had, but they were shot for their ideals and because they were the face of america (not to mention because there are some crazyyy muthas out there.) Race and/or sex really doesn't have anything to do with it.

all of u little kids can't say much because u can't vote.

Now, are you saying that because you are in the military (which that would make sense) or because you want to be a jerk (which would not make sense)? Because even though most of can't vote, doesn't mean we don't know what we're talking about, nor does it mean we can't say anything. Freedom of speech, bud.

And anywho, does a different race/gender of president imply they'll be assassinated? Every prez has had an assassination attempt made on him.

i am in the military!!!!

and not every president has had an assasination attempt!!!!!!!

the world is not ready for a change in their government, so i believe they will be assasinated.

i really wouldnt mind if they were altho i dont want anyone to die but if they r assasinated it wont hurt my feelings

Hilary shud be prezedent!!! shes a grrrrrrl and her huzband is relllllly meen!!!11 their waz sum grl and he cheated on her and i dont like cheeetas!!!!!!!!11

we shud vote for hilary cuz a vote for hilary is a vote for grrrrls evrywere wit bad men!!!!!!!

kbye :)

Hmmm....well I don't think that her gender alone is enough of a justification for her to be elected or not. Personally, I agree with her on most issues.

And, to address something that was said earlier, a lot of women have run for president before, or sought a party's nomination, but Hillary Clinton appears to be the front runner for the Democratic nomination, which is rare/unprecedented.

Still, she's probably unelectable.

unelectable?!?!?!?!/ plz xplane. duhz if she said she waz runnin, then obviusly shes runnin and there4 electable. i mean i myte not no 2 much about poloticks but i do hav comon cents.

politics and common sense do not make a good match. I would hope that everyone knew this by now...

Hillary Clinton is a debatable subject that I will not get into her being electable until I know all of the facts first. I personally don't like her, but whatever happens happens...

I assume Demoncrat means unelectable in the sense that she won't be elected, not she can't be voted for.

half the populayshun is woman, so if hilary got half the votes and prolly a couple man mite vote for her too obviously she would win. comon cents_'

Well, our political structure could still rule everything out. You see, when someone votes for president, their vote is not a direct vote for the president. You are actually voting for an electoral vote. A group of high political individuals make up the "Electoral College", which are the real individuals behind who gets to be president and vice president. Members of the board are supposed to vote for whomever received the majority vote in their area, hence they "pledge to vote" for an individual. However, it has been known that on many occasions electors have submitted a vote different than what they have pledged to vote for. Of course, this is looked down upon, although there is really nothing to stop them from doing so.

There, an American government lesson in a single post, what fun :). Just as an add-in, this is only for the president and vice president. If you vote for a senator, house representative, etc, your vote counts directly for an individual without any go-between.

So, anyway, I'll reiterate what everyone has said being that it is unlikely, due to the fact she is a women, Hillary will become president. Many individuals in this country are rather scared of a women president. In addition, it's rather optimistic to think every women in the country would vote for her, mainly as I know many women whom do not agree with Clinton on several policies. I actually recently spoke to a few friends I meet up with at JrNYLT and NYLT, along with my adviser, all of us having a long discussion on the matter.

I wouldnt vote for her because I dont agree with some of her policies, not because she is a woman. Voting for someone or not voting for them solely because they are female is called being sexist and is something that I do not condone because it is something I've had to deal with most my life (catholic schools/nuns + mostly female faculty + female students outnumbering male students 5/4).

Anyway I was talking with someone about Hilary and they called her a socialist. What do you think of that?

Personally, I think Hilary has a few good ideas and a few bad ones, but I don't really like her and I wouldn't vote for her.

BARACKTHEVOTE. nuff said.

(i.e. Barack Obama is amazing.)

Ok I'm a little late on this topic but here's my voice. I've looked through the whole argument and it seems to have gone off topic. If you look back ZeldaGuardian was asking everyones stances on President Bush, not necessarily the Democratic presidential candidates. Personally I honestly do not care who wins the election, because either way Bush is out. And I don't think anyone can screw up as badly as he did. But if I had to pick a democratic nominee it would be either Edwards, Clinton, or Kucinich.

What exactly is a Kucinich?

Oh nvm... I looked it up myself yet the closest word I got was "cinch"

1.a strong girth used on stock saddles, having a ring at each end to which a strap running from the saddle is secured.

Here's what I have to say about John Edwards

And about this thread...
ZG made it sound like anything going on in the news since he asked about president bush and paris hilton. So talking about the democratic nominees is fine.

You cannot believe how many arguments i have gotten into with my brother over this. Yes, you are correct, in theory. The electoral college was originally established so that people would vote not for the candidate, but for whatever local candidate for the position of electoral voter they thought was the smartest/best informed. The people were never meant to directly choose their president. In actuality, the U.S. has become far more of a democracy than a republic in this case, for good or for ill.

Wait, since when are women counted as a minority? They're 53% of the population! It's not quite 50/50, the balance can shift over thousands of years.

Vote Ficus Tree for '08! Ficus was once elected as a Senator in California as a write-in candidate way back in the day (Not to be confused with 2000. Ficus is not associated with Michael Moore.), and is the least attacked of all presidential hopefuls! That means Ficus Tree must be the best!
